Why You Can’t Stick to Your Homeschool Plans!

homeschool plan

Although you know exactly what you should be doing at a particular moment, on a specific day of your homeschool, do you still struggle to accomplish it? There are times when even the best-laid homeschool plans don’t work out. When this happens, it can leave you feeling stressed and anxious.

All of us have done it. Despite creating seemingly perfect plans, they get discarded after a few weeks. How come we spend so much time creating plans and then have trouble sticking to our homeschool plans?

In Episode 90 of the Raising Mums podcast, I share how you can stick to your homeschool plans.

Points to be taken away:-

  • The initial period requires some experimentation and time to figure things out. It’s ok if you don’t get it right the first time!
  • Are you being over ambitious or unrealistic considering the season of life you find yourself in
  • Do you tell yourself you never follow through on things? Do you tell other people you can’t stick to plans? If you want to, you’ll need to change that part of your identity!

How to Take Trips with Kids (and Survive when it All Goes Wrong!)

Trips with kids

Among the countless benefits of homeschooling is flexible scheduling. This means your family has the freedom to learn whenever and wherever you want because the whole world is your classroom! Taking trips with your kids is not only great for learning and socializing but also for creating memories for the entire family. Unfortunately, sometimes, even with all the best intentions, things don’t go as expected. So how can you survive the setback?

In Episode 65 of the Raising Mums podcast, I share some tips to get your family out and exploring.

Key Points to Remember:

  • Taking trips, outside of your regular routine, creates memories and heart connections.
  • Don’t discount the small – the joy lies in being together.
  • Plan for the worst – pack well , research, prepare the children ahead.
  • Be present with your children – not distracted by worry or stress, or your phone.
  • Expect something to go wrong on your trip, and when it does know that walking through that difficulty together pulls you closer and makes your relationship with your kids stronger.
  • And if you handle it well, it will amke their connection to Allah stronger too.
  • When it goes wrong: make dua, encourage your children to make dua, be flexible, recall others who faced adversity, remeber verses of Quran or a Hadith.

3 Reasons Why You’re NOT Consistent in your Homeschool Routine

Homeschool routine

Many homeschool mum’s have shared with us that they struggle with consistency— and they feel guilty because of it. We all know that our children need consistency in their lives. Consistency gives them a sense of security but some days, being consistent with our homeschool routine feels impossible. If you do struggle with consistency in your days, you are not alone

In Episode 59 of the Raising Mums podcast, I share 3 Reasons Why You’re NOT Consistent in your Homeschool Routine

The 3 reasons why you’re not consistent in your homeschool routine:

  1. It’s not a necessity
  2. There are no deadlines
  3. You’re doing it all alone

When we’re consistent in our homeschooling efforts, the reward for that is confidence.

Preparing your Homeschool for the New Year

Homeschool prep for New Year

As we move into the New Year, I always recommend that during this time of transition, homeschooling families should take some time to reflect on the successes and failures of the previous year, the lessons learnt, and set some new intentions before pushing ahead into the New Year.

During this time, before beginning your next homeschool term, seek clarity and direction for your family by getting quiet, turning inward, making dua, and asking yourself some very important questions.

Homeschool planning new year

WATCH THIS VIDEO

Watch this YouTube video, when I went LIVE on my Facebook and Instagram accounts, and chatted with you about preparing your homeschool for the New Year, and talked you through the questions listed below.

Seek Clarity for your Homeschool

1) What was my favourite homeschool memory of last year?

2) What was my most painful homeschool memory of last year?

3) If you were to summarise the last year homeschooling in one word what would it be?

4) What areas were really successful?

5) What areas/people/topics/activities drained me? What drained the kids?

6) Where can I get help?

7)What can I cut out?

8) Where can we grow, further develop in our homeschool?

9)What areas don’t allign with my homeschool/family vision?

10) What positive change(s) can I implement going forward into the next year?

There are far better things ahead than we ever left behind.

C.S. Lewis

I hope that this video and the questions I’ve posed will help you find the clarity you need moving forward, and help you to live a life with your family that aligns with your values.

If you would like to share the answers to any, or all of the questions above, I would love to hear them! Please leave them for me in the comments below.
